Q:
How do you hand-hold your camera to prevent blur while using a slow shutter speed?
A:
Blur is more of a problem today with hand-held digital cameras set on automatic. The available light that is present provides a perfect opportunity to obtain more depth of lighting in the photograph. However what looks good on the LCD screen is too often slightly blurred on a 5x7 or 8x10 prints because because the camera has set itself to a slower shutter speed to accommodate the lower light level -- but can't take jiggle.
To prevent as much blur as possible and still hand hold the camera just imagine the camera being mounted on a sliding rail that runs from your chin to the subject. Squeeze off the shutter as you very slowly slide the camera back along that imaginary rail into your chin. You will probably move it less than an inch as you depress the shutter button -- just enough linear movement to stabalize the camera and image.
The result: a sharper image than you had expected.
